Obesity is known to be cause and is associated with a number of diseases. It has recently been classified as a health-related disease due to the prevalence of the disease. However, one study provides an important way to reduce the effects of severe obesity on health.
Means to reduce the effects of obesity on health:
A study of about 20,000 people revealed that regular jogging was the best type of exercise to "mitigate" the effects of genes that increase the risk of obesity in a person.
Scientists from the National Taiwan University have studied the impact of exercise on 18,424 Chinese aged 30 to 70 years.
The team measured the participants' bodies and monitored the amount of exercises they performed with a DNA analysis to see if they were naturally more likely to be obese.
According to Harvard, over 400 genes have been associated with a higher risk of weight gain by affecting the appetite, the metabolic rate or the way their body stores fat.
Result of the study
"Regular jogging mitigates genetic effects on BMI, fat percentage and hip circumference," said Dr. Wan-yu Lin. "The climbing, hiking, exercise and international standard dance have also shown that they mitigate the effects of heredity on BMI."
In addition to body mass index, fat and hip size, scientists measured hip-height ratio in humans, as well as their genetic risk score, determining the role of DNA in obesity. They studied the effects of 18 different types of exercises that help people lose weight.
