According to the EurekAlert website, the study included 3,974 Spanish citizens who, during the trial period, were wearing the Actigraph, which measures the length of sleep and the day before.

Participants were divided into four groups based on their night hours. They also underwent echocardiography and computed tomography to diagnose diseases.

The results showed that those who slept less than six hours were 27% more likely to develop atherosclerosis than those who slept between 7 and 8 hours. In addition, the risk of cardiovascular disease increased by 34% due to lack of sleep and nocturnal awakening.

However, it has been found that a sleep of more than 8 hours a day could contribute to the development of atherosclerosis. Interestingly, those who have been sleeping for a few years often eat coffee and alcohol. Scientists believe that the damage caused by coffee is based on the slow absorption of some people.
