Researchers at the University of Manchester, UK, who inhale sugar solution vapor after boiling can stimulate the immune system of the lungs to fight diseases.
Andrew MacDonald, lead author of the study, said that macrophages in the lungs needed adequate glucose levels to function properly, to prevent infections and pneumonia.
The researchers found that stimulating cells in the lungs, with more sugar, helps the immune system fight against bronchial infections that cause coughs, chronic lung diseases such as pneumonia and asthma, as well as potentially life-threatening effects such as parasitic helminthic infection.
