In a strange incident, Croatian coach Branko Ivankovic learned of his dismissal during a live TV interview.
Al Ahli's board of directors decided to sack Branco after a 2-1 defeat at home against Al Wahda on Saturday in the third round of the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman Cup.
In a TV interview after the match, the reporter informed Branco of his dismissal, to reply: "I do not know anything about it.
Asked about his position at the news of his dismissal, Branco said: "I have not been informed of anything yet, let's see what will happen in the future."
Al Ahli had signed a contract with Branco last June, until 2021.
