LONDON (Reuters) – A syringe capable of stopping the progression of Alzheimer 's disease could be available to patients 10 years from now, according to the British Society for Research on Dementia and Aging.
According to the WHO, a series of effective treatments have disrupted harmful genes, helping scientists to reach a "critical point" in their fight against the disease.
For decades, researchers have searched in vain for a cure for Alzheimer's disease, which depends on the target of harmful proteins that accumulate in the brain. But the "amazing" results of a recent experiment aimed at stopping harmful genes in children with a rare disease of the spinal cord convinced the scientists that they could adopt the same method for those who are most likely to have Alzheimer's disease.
