An application based on the technique of "deep falsification" has become widespread in China, allowing users to place their images instead of the faces of actors in famous film scenes.
The Zao app was launched last Friday and quickly reached the top of the Chinese charts of the iOS App Store, according to a Bloomberg report.
To use Zao, users upload their own image to the application, choosing the movie or TV show in which they wish to place their images.
According to one user, the application takes only 8 seconds to insert a face image into the scene.
Alan Chea, a Twitter user, has published a number of videos showing his face in famous scenes. It sounds oddly convincing.
Mr. Xia tested Zao's application by putting his face on the character "Hulk", as well as Kate Winslet in the movie "Titanic".
While many view the app as a source of innocuous pleasure, the developer's privacy policy has raised many concerns among users.
According to Bloomberg, the policy includes a clause stating that the developer is licensed "free, irrevocable, permanent, transferable and able to rely on all the content generated by the user".
In response to this reaction, the application developer has made it clear that it will not touch users' photos or videos, as part of an action other than the enhancement from the application without their permission.
However, Mr. Xia also expressed concerns about the charging by other users of photos on the Zao application.
Last year, several "in-depth counterfeit" porn videos appeared on the Internet, and this technique was used to represent prominent figures in the company.
