The Arab League on Wednesday condemned Israel's continuing violations of the Al-Aqsa Mosque and called for support for the Palestinians' tenacity.
Israeli police stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city of East Jerusalem on Tuesday, sealing and attacking worshipers, wounding several others.
The university said in a statement that "what is happening in the Al-Aqsa mosque in recent days represents an intentional provocation from Israel, unprecedented in its glory".
"The storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque is a violation of the status quo in the holy city for decades and threatens to trigger religious tensions."
Since mid-February, Jerusalem has been in a state of tension following the insistence of the Israeli authorities to close the Bab al-Rahma chapel of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
The university issued this statement at the conclusion of a meeting between its secretary general, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and Palestinian foreign and finance ministers, Riyad al-Maliki and Shukri Bishara, arrived Wednesday in Cairo to discuss obtaining financial support for Palestine.
The university revealed that "Palestinian officials came with a message from President Mahmoud Abbas on the seriousness of the Palestinian Authority's financial situation, due to Israel's arbitrary detention of funds from tax revenues due to the Palestinians ".
At the meeting, Maliki and Bishara stressed the importance of obtaining financial support from Arab countries to deal with this difficult situation, according to the statement.
On February 17, Israel decided to seize $ 139 million (one year) of tax revenue as a punitive measure for the Palestinian Authority to allocate a portion of this revenue to the compensation of detainees and families of martyrs.
"Strengthening the steadfastness of the Palestinian people is an Arab commitment that must be fulfilled to support the Palestinian will to the illegitimate appropriation or justification of Palestinian tax revenues under the Paris Agreement," said the Arab League.
She stressed that "the Israeli occupation government has, during the recent period, been carrying out a sort of electoral propaganda through the abuses of the Palestinians and the extreme extremist statements issued by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a closed state against the Jews alone, or remaining permanently in the Syrian Golan.
In addition, the US State Department on Wednesday approved the arbitrary detention and restrictions imposed on Palestinians in Jerusalem.
On Wednesday, the US Department of Human Rights released its annual report on human rights 2018, which tracks the situation of some 200 countries and regions.
The report pointed out that restrictions on Palestinians in Jerusalem include arbitrary or illegal interference with privacy and family, and restrictions on freedom of movement, according to the local "free" channel.
The US Department said the Israeli government "has taken steps to prosecute and punish those responsible for offenses inside Israel, regardless of the rank or seniority of the Israeli government. # 39, accused ".
The report points out that Washington "has recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and that the American position is that the limits of Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem are subject to final status negotiations between the parties (Palestinian and Israeli)" .
He stressed that the Palestinian Authority has no authority over Jerusalem.
In late 2017, Trump announced that Jerusalem would be his capital, east and west of Israel, and then moved the US embassy to Israel from Tel. Aviv in Jerusalem on May 14, decision rejected by the Palestinians.
Palestinians regard East Jerusalem as the capital of their desired state, based on resolutions of international legitimacy, which do not recognize the Israeli occupation of the city since 1967.
