Next Wednesday, the sky of the Arab world will witness the closest giant full moon this year 2021, and it will be characterized by its coincidence with a total eclipse for the first time in two and a half years, but the eclipse is not seen in the Arab world because it occurs during the day.

The Jeddah Astronomical Society says: The description of the giant moon is given to the moon whether it is in the new moon or the full moon when the distance between the center of the moon and the center of the Earth is at less than 362,146 kilometers, and the scientific designation is Badr al-Hadeed, which means the moon reaches the closest point to the Earth.

The giant moon will reach the time of its completion at (11:14 GMT) and will be at a distance of 357,461 km, 9 hours and 24 minutes after arriving at perigee. This synchronization will increase its apparent size by about 14% and its illumination by about 30% greater than that of the smallest full moon (August) will take place next December, which is slightly closer to Earth by about 157 km. only that the giant full moon of April 26, 2021.

The giant full moon will shine after sunset from the southeast horizon and will be orange in color due to components of the atmosphere around the Earth which will scatter the white light reflected from the moon and scatter the colors of the blue spectrum. and the colors of the red spectrum will remain, but after its ascent and distance from the horizon, it will appear in the usual silvery white.

The term giant full moon is considered to be more “attractive” than the perigee full moon, and at the same time it gives people the false impression that the giant full moon will appear much larger, but in fact, giant full moons do not. appear no larger than ordinary full moons to the naked eye, although experienced observers can tell the difference.

It will have no effect on the globe except for the two tidal phenomena, which is a natural thing.Every month on the day of the full moon, the earth, the moon and the sun are aligned, and this causes a wide tide Since the full moon will be close to the point of perigee, the tide will sow in a phenomenon called high tides of perigee.

Since the impact of the giant full moon will be small, it will not affect the internal energy balance of our planet as the tides occur daily, hence an increase in geological activity or unusual weather conditions. are not expected.

It is worth mentioning for the year 2021, there are those who consider the four full moons of March, April, May and June to be giant, and there are those who consider them to be the three full moons of April, May and June, but the full moons of April and May are the closest this year.
