The Saudi Interior Ministry announced Thursday that it had foiled an attempt to introduce a number of drugs and weapons into the country and arrested the people involved.
According to local newspaper "Sabd", director of the media center of the Ministry of the Interior, Lt. Col. Talal Al-Shalhoub, as security patrols and as part of its activities at the border sites of the regions of Jazan and Asir managed to thwart attempts to smuggle 52 tons of khat drug, 157 kg of various hashish weapons and 16,166 live ammunition.
Al-Shalhoub confirmed that 825 suspects had been arrested, 1,013,159 riyals ($ 274,000) and that 743 cars had been seized in various cases.
At the same time, border guards in the Najran area thwarted an attempt to smuggle nearly half a ton of drugs.
"A vehicle was spotted while his commander was trying to cross the Saudi border, he was seized, his commander and his escort arrested and 420 kilograms of cannabis seized," Border Guard spokesman said. .
