The best player in Europe is limited to 3 players.

ATLANTA (AP) – UEFA has reduced the list of candidates for European footballer of the year 2019 to three players.

The list was limited to Barcelona player Lionel Messi, Juventus striker Cristiano Ronaldo and Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The winner of the prize, which will be held by the Croatian player of Real Madrid, Luka Modric, will be announced on August 29th.

Ronaldo has won the prize three times and Messi twice, while Van Dyke has never been crowned before.

Messi was nominated for the award after winning the La Liga title with Barcelona and the top scorer title in the Champions League, while Ronaldo won the Serie A with Juventus.

Van Dijk won the Champions League with Liverpool, the Premier League player of the year last season and finished second in the Premier League.

The final list was missing from a number of players who, according to some, deserve to win, such as a number of Manchester City players, as well as Egyptian Mohamed Salah and Senegalese Sadio Mane.
