In the United States of America, it was announced that the boxer who won an Olympic gold medal and then defeated legend Muhammad Ali Clay to become the heavyweight champion unanimously, had died after a long struggle against the cancer.
Boxer Spinks died at the age of 67 on Friday, in the presence of a small number of his family and close friends, due to “Covid 19” restrictions.
He rose to prominence after winning light heavyweight gold for the United States at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, but he shocked the boxing world two years later in his eighth game as the professional, when he defeated boxing legend Muhammad Ali Clay in Las Vegas.
It was the most important snapshot of Spinks’ march, and Muhammad Ali was able to avenge the loss in a new fight between them after another 7 months in New Orleans.
Spinks competed for the heavyweight title again, but lost to Larry Holmes in 1981.
Spinks retired in 1995 at the age of 42, with an impressive record of 26 wins, 14 of which were knockouts.
