Tunisian singer Mounira Hamdi died Sunday after battling the disease at the age of 54.
Mounira was deported "after suffering from the disease in recent months, forcing her to cancel several of her concerts at the summer festivals," TAP reported.
Mounira was born in the province of Beja in northwestern Tunisia and began her career in the national television program (talent club).
She participated in the opening ceremony of the International Carthage Festival in 2001 and has won numerous awards, including the first prize of the Arab Song Festival in 2004.
She has distinguished herself in the interpretation of the Tarabi color and has made during her career dozens of songs in the Tunisian, Egyptian and Gulf dialects, as well as the experience of playing in the Gulf series (Desert Rats) in 2014, as well as in the field of television presentation through the show "with Mounira" on the Tunisa channel.
The Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs said in a statement: "The deceased was known for his soft voice, able to play the classics of Arabic song.
A large number of singers, composers and Tunisian artists have sung it through social networks, including actress Dora Zarrouk and singer Amani Souissi.
