Scientists have discovered what they have described as the oldest cancerous tumor in history, where they found it in the bones of a turtle that lived 240 million years ago. # 39; years.
The discovery highlights the development of cancerous diseases that millions of people have suffered and continue to suffer over the centuries, reported the Daily Mail.
The doctors found the tumor in the thigh bone of the turtle and compared it to the sarcoma bone that affects humans today.
"This study proves that tumors began to appear early in the Triassic Period and that cancer is not a recent physiological defect, but rather an inherent weakness of human evolution," said Yara Hridi, Professor of Science at the Museum of Natural History Berlin.
Bone cancer causes severe pain and approximately 550 new cases of bone cancer are diagnosed each year in the UK alone.
Bone sarcoma is the most common form of bone cancer and can develop anywhere in the body, usually affecting adolescents and young people.
