The Emirates Journalists Association participated in the regional workshop on organizing trade unions in the digital age organized by the National Union of Tunisian Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) from March 30 to April 2, 2019.

Ali Al Hanoori, member of the board of directors and treasurer, said that the association had participated in the meeting on the Declaration on the Freedom of the Media in the Arab World on March 30 and 31 in Tunis, organized by the International Federation of Journalists and the General Union of Arab Journalists in cooperation with the National Union of Tunisian Journalists.

He added that participants had discussed a topic at the opening meeting on media freedom in the Arab world, chaired by Naji Bagouri, president of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists, entitled "How the future presents itself without the freedom of the media and independent journalism in the Arab world" Yoonis Mujahid, First Vice President of the International Federation of Journalists and Sadiq Rizaqi, President of the International Federation of Journalists Union of African Journalists.

He explained that a session was devoted to the presentation of a summary of the campaign associated with the signing of the Declaration of Freedom of Information in the Arab world and the establishment of the regional mechanism. support for media freedom, the situation of which was discussed and moderated by Jim Boumhla, Munir Zaarour, Director of Policy and Programs in the Arab World and the Middle East, IFJ.

Nasser Abu Bakr, president of the Union of Palestinian Journalists, presented the proposal of journalists' unions to the Arab summit meeting on the adoption of the declaration of freedom of information in the Arab world.

Naji Bagouri spoke about press freedom in the Arab region, highlighting public service, the safety of journalists and equality in the media sector.

Joseph Kasifi, president of the Lebanese Press Publishers Association, and Dehairan Aba El Khail, board member of the Kuwait Journalists Association, and Musa Bahli, president of the Lebanese Press Association, Association of Mauritanian Journalists, discussed ways to strengthen regional cooperation to support freedom of the press and the media in Arab countries.

Al-Hanouri said the meeting focused on ways to support journalists and their unions in crisis areas where Mohammed Shabaita, secretary general of the Yemeni Journalists Union, Musa Abdelnour, president of the Syrian Journalists Association and Mohamed Lahham from the Union of Palestinian Journalists.

Anthony Pelangi, Secretary General of the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ), and Nagee Bagouri, President of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists, to which Mariam Al Rumaithi participated, opened the regional workshop on the 39, trade union organization in the digital age.

The workshop reviewed reports on the state of digital media and e-journalism in their country and gave a presentation on the Regional Bulletin on Digital Journalism and Youth published by the Regional Working Group.
