Health Minister Anas Dalkali said Tuesday that the seasonal flu pandemic this year is normal and not a cause for concern.
At a press conference, Mr Dakali said that recording cases of seasonal influenza A (H1N1) virus remained common, with the national surveillance and epidemiological surveillance system recording cases every year. of the virus during the winter season, as in other countries.
He emphasized that his ministry wanted to strengthen the clinical and viral surveillance of influenza and acute respiratory infections, which are currently activated in several health centers and public hospitals (Rabat, Fez, Marrakech, Meknes, Beni Mellal, Oujda and Agadir).
He pointed out that the analysis of epidemiological data on influenza symptoms revealed a late onset of the seasonal epidemic from 17 to 23 December 2018, peaking between 7 and 13 January 2019, noting that flu usually affected all age groups in Morocco, adults.
He explained that the analysis of clinical and viral data on the symptoms of influenza and acute respiratory infections in Morocco showed a situation similar to that observed in the world, adding that of the 541 samples received by the US, National Institute of Health until January 20, 2019, it was possible to analyze the viral confirmation of 100 influenza variety viruses. In this regard, he called on citizens to vaccinate against the virus, especially those with chronic diseases, pregnant women and children aged 6 months to 5 years and people over 65 years.
It also called on health professionals to comply with the preventive behaviors of washing hands regularly, reducing contact with the flu, covering their mouths when coughing or sneezing a tissue or elbow, and do not reuse paper towels or ventilate rooms.
He said that he would inform the national public opinion on the epidemiological situation in order to protect the health of citizens.
