Jamie Spears, the father of American singer Britney Spears, on Thursday agreed to release his daughter’s guardianship, giving her the right to dispose of her property.
Pop star Britney Spears’ attorney has announced that her father, Jimmy Spears, has agreed to relinquish custody of his daughter’s belongings after playing the role for a long time.
“We are pleased that Mr. Spears and his lawyer have now admitted in court that he should be removed from office,” said lawyer Matthew Rosengat.
Spears, who has controlled her daughter’s affairs since suffering from a mental illness in 2008, has agreed to step out of custody in a document filed in court today.
The pop star has been trying for months to get rid of her father’s guardianship over her, and a court has set a hearing for her claim in late September in Los Angeles.
Last July, a judge rejected Britney Spears’ request to lift her father’s legal guardianship.
Spears asked the Los Angeles court to lift her father’s legal guardianship over her, who ruled her life for 13 years.
In a long and moving speech, she said: “I want to end this guardianship without evaluation. This guardianship is doing me more harm than good. I deserve to have my life.”
It should be noted that judicial guardianship is a type of court-imposed guardianship that includes people who are no longer able to make decisions on their own, usually the elderly and infirm, but critics have argued that the process can be exploited and have cited the case of Spears as an example.
