UEFA on Thursday announced the list of candidates for the best player of the year on the continent.
The selection included three players: Argentina's Lionel Messi Barcelona, Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo, Italian forward Juventus and Dutch defender Vergil van Dyke Liverpool Liverpool.
UEFA will announce the winner on 29 August in the Champions League group draw.
Croatian Luka Modric holds the trophy, winning last season after facing Cristiano Ronaldo and Mohamed Salah, eliminated from the short list this season.
