The year 2021 will witness several exciting and striking astronomical phenomena, in the hope that people can witness them together, unlike what happened in 2020 which is full of isolation and social distancing due to the Corona pandemic.
According to the “National Geographic” site, 2021 will witness dozens of amazing astronomical phenomena throughout the year, and now here is the most important of these phenomena.
May 26: total lunar eclipse
It is also known as the “blood moon”, and this time coincides with the moon being at its closest point to Earth. Where it will appear bigger and brighter, or what is known as “Super Moon”.
People in western North America, western South America, Australia and Southeast Asia will be able to see the “blood moon”.
A total lunar eclipse occurs as a result of the Earth falling in a straight line between the moon and the sun, so that the sun’s rays are blocked from the moon, but not completely. The light passes through a thin layer of Earth’s atmosphere, where red rays are reflected off the moon to appear red, and so it was called a “blood moon”.
June 10: Solar eclipse “Ring of Fire”
Residents of Canada, parts of Greenland and Russia will be able to observe this phenomenon, also known as the “annular eclipse”, in the wee hours of the morning.
This phenomenon occurs every year or two and can only be seen from a narrow path across the planet.
Annular eclipses occur when the moon passing between the earth and the sun is not close enough to our planet to completely block sunlight, leaving a thin ring of the sun visible.
November 19: partial lunar eclipse
Residents of North and South America, Australia, parts of Europe and Asia will be able to witness the second lunar eclipse in 2021.
Technically, the eclipse is partial, but up to 95% of the moon will enter Earth’s shadow.
The year 2021 is expected to end with a second solar eclipse, this time entirely, but it will only be available in Antarctica.
During this time, a partial solar eclipse will be visible in parts of Chile, Argentina, South Africa, Namibia and Australia.
It is worth mentioning that the year 2020 has witnessed many amazing astronomical phenomena, including a meteor shower, the appearance of a bright comet, the approach of Mars and its appearance in an exciting sight, in addition to the approach of the planets of Jupiter and Saturn to each other, and other rare phenomena.
