The University of Philadelphia publishes the proceedings of the conference on “The Feminist Discourse in the Arab World”

Amman – Al-Ghad- The University of Philadelphia in Jordan, in cooperation with publishing and distribution company Fata’at, published the work of its twenty-third international conference (Feminist Discourse in the Arab World), which was held from April 23 to 25 of 2019, in which 100 researchers and researchers participated.
The task of editing and revising the publication was undertaken by: Ghassan Abdel-Khaleq, Omar Kfawin, Hala Al-Aboushi, Nidaa Meshaal.
The first volume included opening words from: University Advisor Dr Marwan Kamal, University President Dr Moataz Sheikh Salem, Organizing Committee Chairman, Dr Ghassan Abdel Khaleq, and the two guests of honor on Dr Hind Abu Al-Shaar and Dr Maliha Maslamani.
The research articles evaluated and approved under the first axis (theoretical and historical framework) were as follows: A woman in the mirror / Al-Yamin Ben Toumi, Feminism in the Islamic world / Muhammad Barakat, Intellectual controversy on women / Bassam Al-Battoush, Feminist studies in the Arab world / Feminist speech by Abdullah, to where? / Lilian Qurban, Philosophical reading in feminist discourse / Fawzia Mourad, Sociological training of feminist writing / Salim Berkan, post-feminist / Aida Fahmawi, Identity of contemporary feminist writing / Alamah Khadri, Discourse of struggle of Algerian women / Muhammad Marja, Representations of violence in the Iraqi feminist novel / Shaima Ali, The culture of withdrawal in the feminist discourse / Qusay Kanaan, Fanny Colonna between religion and religion / Fayrouz Mami.
As for the research work referenced and approved in the second axis (Feminist discourse and human sciences), they are presented as follows: The role of Muslim women in political life / Muhammad Al-Amayrah, the twisted feminist / Saud Al-Sharafat, the impact of the rise of political Islam on feminist reality / Imran Alyan, representations of political power in feminist reality / Saba Sa’el, the problem of religious discourse in the thought of Fatima Mernissi / Fawzi Kenzai, the demonstrations of religious discourse and its impact on feminist discourse / Manal Awad, Feminist discourse in the Arab world / Ismail Al-Arabi, attempt by Israeli orientalism to change the course of Palestinian feminist discourse / Abdullah Ahmad.
While the research studies approved for publication in the third axis (Feminist Discourse in Art and Media) are as follows: Feminist Discourse in Palestinian Art / Marwan Alan, Image of the Intifada in Feminist Cartoon / Sarah Kusibi, Emotional representations in Palestine drawings of children / Kamel Kutlu, Impression of Time And the place in the expressive values ​​of women / Mohsen Allam, the feminist discourse in the architectural direction of Zaha al-Hadid / Muhammad Ababneh, the role feminist discourse in Jordanian plastic art / Nahla Malkawi, representations of the question of female identity in the series “Awisha” / Anisa al-Saadoun, the transformation of the image of the Palestinian activist in the media / Omar Raddad , feminist literature in the Jordanian press / Majed Al- Zubaidi. This theme was followed by the full text of the final declaration.

This axis was followed by an annex which included three studies in English for: Shadi Al-Naima / Women in the works of Ghassan Kanafani, Nancy Al-Daghmi / The feminist agenda carried over into the nationalist discourse, and Facilitating the return / The pleasures of Exile in the cards of Farah Nour al-Din.
The organizing committee of the conference was composed of: Ghassan Abdel Khaleq, Omar Al-Kfawin, Muwaffaq Abu Hammoud, Amjad Al-Zoubi, Areen Khalifa, Lina Ashour, Faisal Al-Omari, Muntaha Al-Shami and Rima Arafat.
The final declaration of the conference also included a number of recommendations, the most important of which were: to give feminist studies and innovations the attention they deserve in Arab universities, and to work towards the establishment of research centers specializing in feminist thought, to the rhythm of serious studies published in the West and translate them into Arabic.
