On Monday, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched a new global strategy to fight the "flu" from 2019 to 2030.
The goal of this initiative is to protect people around the world against the risks of disease and to control its spread and its transmission from animals to humans.
"The risk of flu is still present," said Dr Tidros Adhanom, WHO's Director General, referring to the disastrous consequences of his transition from animals to humans, and urging the nations of the world to demonstrate vigilance in the event of a pandemic.
He pointed out that "influenza" remains one of the greatest public health challenges in the world, with an annual incidence of up to one billion people, including acute cases ranging from three to five million, leading to the death of 650 victims.
"The new strategy developed by FAO is the most comprehensive and ambitious approach that can fight the epidemic through the promotion of routine programs," said Adhanom. "The plan is based on two pillars: first, to strengthen national capacities for surveillance and control of the disease, prevention of influenza and treatment with antiviral vaccines and other modern means".
