After US officials reported that about 4,000 employees of the Washington embassy in Kabul were still in Afghanistan, the United States said Monday it had transferred nearly 500 of them.

In a statement, the US State and Defense Departments revealed that they have security measures in place at Kabul airport to ensure the safe transportation of US employees, announcing that the US military had secured the area around the capital’s airport to complete the evacuation process.

They added that they were in the process of completing the evacuation of thousands of US citizens in the coming days.

The joint statement also continued that America would expand its security presence to 6,000 troops in order to complete the evacuation.

He pointed out that around 2,000 Afghans have arrived in America and that thousands more are being expelled by the two ministries.

Separately, the US State Department revealed that the flag of its embassy in Kabul had been lowered, pointing out that almost all employees are now at the airport.

1000 soldiers

It should be noted that the administration of US President Joe Biden had decided Sunday to send 1,000 additional troops to the capital, according to a report published by the US newspaper “Washington Post”.

The report stated that the US Department of Defense, the “Pentagon,” had decided to deploy another 1,000 troops to Afghanistan to help with the withdrawal following the fall of the government.

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had confirmed that Washington did not expect the Taliban movement to progress so quickly, noting that America had told the Taliban it would react decisively if any of the its employees were in danger.

It should be noted that the Taliban entered Kabul and officially took control of the administration of the Afghan capital within hours, after the security forces fled.

The movement ordered its fighters to enter Kabul under the pretext of “preventing looting”, confirming the safety of the police stations, Kabul University and the Ministry of Education, after the security centers had been emptied of their limbs.
