“I have to focus on my mental health,” Olympic champion Simone Biles said after retiring from the gymnastics finals at the Tokyo Olympics.

The American player left after putting in a collective performance on Tuesday with her team, but returned later to support her colleagues who won the silver medal, while the gold went to the Russian team.

The 24-year-old’s absence from full singles competition was confirmed on Thursday, the day after her shock withdrawal from team competition, for psychological reasons.

The player scored 13.766 points (the lowest result in the Olympics) before retiring.
