US President Donald Trump lit up Wednesday the national Christmas tree in the White House garden, a 96-year-old presidential tradition.
"This is the time of year when we rejoice with our family and friends to spread the philanthropy and goodwill of our nationwide commitment to all our societies and to thank God for all the blessings we have received, "said Trump.
The American president, known for his arid and sometimes controversial speech, has issued a message of unity when lighting up the tree.
"We are an American family, we are suffering together, we are healing together and we will always move forward together," he said, thanking paramedics and US military personnel.
