Treatment to prolong the life of patients with pancreatic cancer

Researchers at the University of Minnesota reported that intensive chemotherapy and a fight against cancer could prolong the lives of about one-third of pancreatic cancer patients.
"About 35% of patients with pancreatic cancer are discovering tumors that begin to grow outside the pancreas and extend to many critical blood vessels surrounding the device," said the principal investigator, Dr. Mark Trotty.

"These patients are often fatal and the remaining survival period is short and does not exceed 12 months, but the new chemotherapy regimen will help them to give more time," he said.

The new treatment method relies on increasing the rate of ingestion of doses of chemicals in combination with radiation therapy and on the elimination of surgical tumors.

The results of the study of 149 desperate patients for seven years showed that their intensive chemotherapy, their radiotherapy and the elimination of tumors by surgery had prolonged their survival.

The results also showed that half of the people who followed this method of treatment are still alive while their cancer was at an advanced stage, according to the website "UBI".
