The election silence of Tunisia began Saturday, pending the vote for a president on Sunday.
The two candidates, Mohsen Marzouk of the "Tunisia Project" and Selim Riahi, leader of the "Tunis Tunisia" movement, decided to withdraw from the presidential race in favor of the candidate Abdelkarim Zubaidi.
The candidates called on their supporters to vote in favor of Zubaidi, for "the national interest" and not to distract the votes.
Electoral silence is a process that occurs immediately after the end of the election campaign and will continue for 24 hours, during which all parties are prohibited from participating in any activity as part of their campaign.
More than 7 million Tunisian voters go to the polls Sunday to choose a new president from over 20 candidates.
In the same context, the Independent High Electoral Commission in Tunisia announced Friday that the polling stations of the presidencies in the Arab countries had experienced a "very important participation".
The vote abroad will continue until Sunday and San Francisco, in the United States, will be the last foreign city where Tunisians will vote.
