The UAE has expressed concern over the Houthi aggression against the city of Marib, which would exacerbate the humanitarian crisis in Yemen and jeopardize the security and stability of the region.
In a statement posted on its website, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation confirmed that dialogue and de-escalation are the only solutions to end the violence in Yemen, calling on the international community to continue its efforts to find a political solution to the Yemeni conflict.
The ministry took note of statements by UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator, Mark Lowcock, regarding the military attack launched by Houthi rebels on Marib, which poses a threat to security and regional stability.
Sultan Muhammad Al Shamsi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Development Affairs, expressed concern that the attack by Houthi rebels in Marib and the brutal acts of violence against civilians would aggravate the suffering of the Yemeni people and impede the delivery of humanitarian assistance.
Al Shamsi stressed that de-escalation and dialogue are the only viable solutions to end the ongoing violence in Yemen. In this regard, Al Shamsi affirmed the UAE’s full support for the efforts of the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen Martin Griffiths and urged the international community to contribute to all efforts aimed at finding a peaceful solution to the conflict.
