UEFA elected its president by acclamation at the Rome meeting

Slovenian President Alexander Chifrin was elected Thursday to the presidency of the European Union Football (UEFA) for four years at the General Assembly of the Continental Union in Rome. Chifrin is committed to carrying out "global reforms" of European club competitions, but has once again denied the plans of a super European league to his agenda.

"The new format of the tournaments, which will emerge from 2024, will add a new dimension to football in Europe," said the president of UEFA.

Chivrin pointed out that the tournaments will be open to all clubs and that the teams will qualify by the results and not by the invitation cards, without giving details.

"We will coordinate closely with the European Club Association to develop the structure of the future club competition system on the continent," he told Reuters after his re-election.

The president of the Continental Union of the game that the big European clubs were planning before his election in 2016 for a separate tournament, however, declined after "frank and direct" between the European Union and the clubs.

He added that the European Super League would not be able to shed light as long as he would remain president of the Continental Union and that Andrea Anelli remained president of the European Clubs Association. .
