United Nations – Harmony:
The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) called for an urgent and rapid expansion of treatment and prevention programs for adolescents of both sexes, while the decline in the number of deaths related HIV and AIDS has slowed down considerably.
"Approximately 76,000 adolescents or teens are at risk of dying every day, about 360,000 by 2030 if no other investment is planned in the HIV prevention, medical diagnosis and treatment programs currently available.
"The report reveals that the world is still far from the right track to eradicate AIDS among children and adolescents by 2030," said UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fur.
UNICEF estimates that nearly 700 adolescents aged 10 to 19 years are infected with HIV every day, the equivalent of an injury every two minutes.
