US company develops contact lenses with augmented reality screen and processor

The American startup Mojo Vision has announced the details of its project to develop a contact lens with a small integrated augmented reality screen, a processor and wireless technology; This provides a digital layer of information overlaid on what you see in the real world, in a sci-fi-like stage.

And “Mojo Vision” on Saturday explained that the axial portion of its lens is a hexagonal screen less than half a millimeter thick, with each pixel equivalent to a quarter the width of a red blood cell. It also includes a “femtoprojector” magnification system or a femtosecond photodetector; It visually enlarges the images and sends them to a central patch in the retina.

The lenses are surrounded by electronics, including a camera that visualizes the outside world. A computer chip then processes these images, controls the display, and connects wirelessly to external devices such as a telephone. It also has a motion tracker that compensates for your eye movements, and the device runs on a battery that charges wirelessly throughout the night, like a smartwatch.

“We were on the verge of making this development a success, and it’s very close to reality,” CEO Mike Wimmer said in a detailed explanation of the design at the Hot Chips conference. The prototypes have passed toxicology testing and Mojo Vision expects a full prototype this year.
