US researchers discover a unique mineral in a meteorite in South Australia

According to the British Daily Mail's website, California researchers have named "Edscottite", a recently confirmed metal, in honor of the famous cosmologist Edward Scott.

It is thought that the meteor comes from a planet in detonation, probably following a collision with another cosmic object. This meteorite, the size of a fist held in the hand, called "Wiederburn" compared to the area where it was discovered in Victoria, Australia, where it was discovered at 4.5 km. About one-third of the meteorite, about 210 grams, remains intact in the Victoria Museums collections, the rest being split for analysis.

Previous studies have revealed that the meteorite contains traces of iron and gold, as well as rare minerals such as kamasite, chrysersite, tyneite and carolite.

When studying a slice of meteorite, the Chi Ma metallurgy of the California Institute of Technology and geologist Alan Rubin of the University of California at Los Angeles discovered small Cracks in a ferrous metal metal of an unprecedented nature.

"The new metal was named in honor of Edward R. Ed Scott, one of the leading cosmologists of the University of Hawaii, Mana, for his essential contributions to looking for meteorites, "the researchers wrote.

Under the electron microscope, edscottite is in the form of small white crystals found in thin slices between surrounding materials.

The researchers believe that this is the result of the formation of edscottite very quickly after the initial material has become excessive in carbon.

"This meteorite was rich in carbon, and by cooling slowly, iron and carbon came together and formed the metal," said Victoria Stuart Mills, chief curator of Earth Sciences at The Age.
