Google has confirmed that "due to the US government's ban on" Huawei "sales, it will not be possible to license its applications to the Chinese smartphone giant. This means that the next Huawei phone will not have access to the Google Play app store, which could prevent users from accessing other popular apps.
Huawei is expected to launch its flagship phone Mate 30 Pro in the coming weeks. This will be the company's first major phone launch since the US restrictions.
The US government banned US companies from selling products and services to Huawei in May, saying there were national security issues that the latter rejected. President Donald Trump said last month that certain exemptions would be allowed, but that US authorities have not been granted any license to trade with Huawei, although they have received more than 130 applications, according to the BBC.
Analysts point out that Huawei will have a hard time selling a phone without Google apps. They claim that launching without Google apps in Europe would be a great success, without Huawei appearing less attractive without major applications such as YouTube and Maps.
The Android operating system is open source. All manufacturers can offer it on their smartphones or tablets. But companies need an agreement with Google to include their popular apps such as Maps, Pay, Search, Photos, Play Store and YouTube. Google did not specify whether it had requested permission to submit its applications to Huawei.
"Huawei will continue to use the Android operating system if the US government allows it otherwise we will continue to upgrade our operating system (announced the development of its operating system, Harmony OS), "said Huawei in a statement. "Anyone who has already bought or is about to buy a smartphone from (Huawei) can continue to access the world of apps, as always. All devices are still covered by the manufacturer's warranty and will receive full technical support accordingly. .
