NASA missions on the Moon and Mars require different experiences from those of their previous missions, as astronauts train for future missions in a huge underground cavern simulating the conditions they will face in the future. ;space.

Located in Slovenia, the cave is home to a labyrinth of mostly unexplored passages rich in native species.

According to Miro, during this six-day training, NASA astronauts, European Space Agency, Canadian Space Agency and Russian space agency Roscosmos will live in the cave. With the support of a team of coaches and security personnel, the explorers will begin to go into the dark to establish a base camp on September 20th.

The crew will learn to track the air and monitor the flow of water – the main link to life on Earth and a valuable resource for space exploration.

The cave environment offers many space-related conditions, including isolation, containment, minimal privacy, technical problems, limited equipment and supplies for cleanliness and comfort.

Astronauts will have to make their own decisions and work independently, isolated from the outside world and out of communication.

"This is the closest environmental, psychological and logistical constraint to a space mission that we can get on this planet," said Course Director Francesco Sauro.

"This new adventure of exploring caves helps them learn from each other, from themselves and from the cave that is always complaining about its enclosed and dark spaces," he said.

Astronauts will keep records of their experiences and discoveries on a tablet and will also be able to use them to check actions and instructions.
