The Volkswagen Group, the world's largest automaker, announced Friday that it had sold 3.12 million Volkswagen brand cars in the first half of this year, exceeding sales of 3 million vehicles in six month.
Volkswagen has a range of brands, including Volkswagen itself, Audi, Porsche, Seat and Skoda.
Volkswagen Group sales grew by 6.3% annually during the first half of the year, this year, thanks to strong sales growth in Europe and South America.
Jürgen Steckmann, "The second half of the year will be much more difficult," he said, referring to the company's startup in the application of the light-duty test internationally accepted, which could slow down production in some of its production lines in Europe. All models have gone through new exhaust tests according to the "globally compatible light test vehicles", which will be introduced before 1 September. This test aims to achieve more accurate exhaust results under actual operating conditions than in the laboratory tests currently in use.
Volkswagen is expected to shut down its production lines at the Wolfsburg plant for several days in the third quarter of this year. On the other hand, Volkswagen said its sales in China fell by 1.7%. The German company attributes this decrease to the tariff reduction on Chinese car imports from 25% to 15% on July 1st, which prompted buyers to postpone the purchase decision last month to take advantage of the new prices. .
Volkswagen sales in the entire first half of the year were 6%, sales in China accounting for about half of the total sales of the German company.
