Saudi Food and Medicines Authority official spokesperson Tayseer Al-Mafarrej said the authority is currently working on the study of 4 vaccines against the coronavirus (Covid-19), noting that when the one of them is approved, it will be announced in a timely manner.
Al-Mafrej added during his speech at the Ministry of Health press conference that the vaccines approved so far in the Kingdom are Pfizer – Bionic and AstraZenka – Oxford.
Al-Mafarrej stressed that the second dose of the Corona vaccine should be of the same type of vaccine.
The spokesperson confirmed that the Food and Drug Administration was tracking vaccinations according to the updated data.
Additionally, a UK study confirmed that Pfizer’s Corona vaccine reduces the risk of infection after the first dose.
The vaccine’s first large concrete study, Pfizer / Biontech, shows the vaccine to be highly effective in preventing Covid-19 disease, at a time that may be critical for countries keen to end isolation and lockdown measures and to reopen the economy.
Most of the data on the effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccine to date has come from clinical trials conducted under controlled conditions, which maintains some uncertainty as to how to translate the results of these trials into reality.
Research conducted in Israel, two months after the start of one of the world’s fastest vaccinations, which provides a rich source of data, showed that vaccination with two doses of the Pfizer vaccine reduced the cases of symptoms of Covid 19% across all age groups as well. Reduce serious infections by about the same percentage.
The study of 1.2 million people also showed that receiving a single dose was 57% effective in protecting against infection after two weeks, according to a report in the New England Journal of Medicine last Wednesday.
