WhatsApp users in India will be able, from Friday, to use the function of sending and receiving money through the app, which is a highly anticipated feature, according to several Indian media outlets.
It should be noted that this feature was released after WhatsApp received approval from the National Payments Commission of India to run its own payment service using the unified payment interface known as of UPI.
“Starting today, people across India will be able to send money via WhatsApp,” WhatsApp said in a tweet on its official Twitter account.
“This secure payment experience makes transferring money as easy as sending a message,” he added. The service will be available on smart phone systems that use the Android or ISO operating system for iPhones.
WhatsApp used to provide the “WhatsApp Pay” service to 20 million users in India, but the service is expanding to allow more users to benefit from it.
The platform is currently working with a number of banks to provide this service, including ICICI Bank, HDF Bank, Axios Bank, in addition to the Central Bank of India.
How does the new service work?
First of all, the user needs to install the latest version of WhatsApp on their phone to allow them to have the “WhatsApp Pay” option.
To register for the send and receive money service, the user also needs a bank account and a debit card.
It is important to note that the telephone number used must be the same as the one registered in the bank account.
After the above steps are completed, the user should open WhatsApp and click on the three dot menu in the upper right corner and then click on the Payments option.
Then the user should click on the option “Add payment”, after that specifies the bank with which you have an account.
WhatsApp will ask to verify the phone number and display the bank account.
Then the user clicks on their bank account and then presses “Done”. The user’s UPI ID, payment history and associated bank accounts will then be displayed.
At this step, the user can send money to contacts who have registered for the “WhatsApp Pay” service.
