The annual report on the world arms trade indicates that Egypt ranks as the world's third largest importer of arms between 2014 and 2018 and has tripled the volume of imports compared to 2009 and 2013, with an increase in percentage greater than 206%.

According to the report's researchers, guns produced in the United States, Great Britain and France are favored by the Gulf states, particularly with "increased tension in the region," according to Pieter Fezmann, principal investigator at the 39; institute.

The researchers note how "dramatic developments" have occurred over the last five years, with Egypt becoming the largest importer of Russian, French and German arms.

The report noted a 354% increase in imports of the Israeli occupation of arms over the past four years, 225% in Qatar and 139% in Iraq, while Syrian regime imports were down 87%.
