The International Center for Sports Studies (CIES) has unveiled the list of the most expensive players in the world today, across a series of criteria ranging from their performance to their age.
According to this study, the market value of the two big stars, Lionel Messi, Barcelona captain, and Cristiano Ronaldo, Juventus’ top scorer, have declined considerably, despite their continued brilliance with their teams.
Lionel Messi was in ninety-seventh place with € 54.1 million, while Cristiano Ronaldo had not even entered the 100 club, and fell to 131st place with just € 47 million .
The reason for the drop in the market value of Messi and Ronaldo is due to their advanced age and the approach of the end of their contracts, as the Argentinian is 33 years old and there is less than six months left after the end of his contract with Barcelona, while the Portuguese approaches the age of 36 and his contract with Juventus expires in June 2022.
