The World Health Organization (WHO) warned against listening to tobacco manufacturers' advice on their latest electronic products and said that e-cigarettes and tobacco heaters contribute to the fight against cancer.

Preventing industry interventions is critical to reducing the harm caused by tobacco use, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) report on the global tobacco epidemic.

"The tobacco industry has a long history of organized, hostile, sustained and adequately resourced anti-smoking measures."

The industry has tried to gain respect by manipulated messages, such as claiming that its products are part of a "harm reduction" strategy, although cigarettes still account for 97% of the global tobacco market, the report said.

The promotion of the electronic cigarette is a way to quit. But Vinayak Prasad, director of the WHO's Tobacco Control Unit, said there was no evidence to support this claim.
