As part of a historic achievement and a promising future project, Virgin Hyperloop achieved the world’s first passenger flight of a capsule traveling inside a vacuum tube suspended by magnetic systems in a test of major security for a technology that society hopes will transform people and property.
Virgin Hyperloop said in a statement Sunday night that company executives had reached speeds of 172 kilometers per hour at the company’s Defloop system test site in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Additionally, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Chairman of Virgin Hyperloop, Group Chairman and CEO of Dubai Ports World, said: “I was delighted to see history unfold before my eyes.”

The Los Angeles-based company envisions a future in which suspended capsules filled with passengers and cargo flow through evacuated tubes at 966 kilometers per hour or more.
The trip through the Hyperloop system between New York and Washington takes just 30 minutes. It would be twice as fast as air travel and four times faster than a high speed train.
The company said it was working on security certification by 2025 and business operations by 2030.
