The new functionality is currently in the testing phase and is gradually starting to be available to all users. There is no doubt that this feature solves a major problem on the platform, which is the difficulty of resuming watching the clip that the user has started watching, but on another device.
This was because the user was resorting to adding the clip to the Watch Later list or manually finding it on the other platform.

Resume watching YouTube clips
The Resume Watching function works very simply and without user intervention. It is automatically activated when the user opens a clip on their smartphone, whether Android or iOS, and only ends it at the end.
What happens is that as soon as YouTube is opened in the PC browser, a widget appears at the bottom right of the screen. This player shows the same clip that the user did not complete the first time around, and the same minute that the user closed it.

The user can expand the mini-player and continue to watch the clip normally, or close it completely if not interested. But until now, this feature didn’t work – for some reason – with official songs and music videos.
Of course, for this feature to work, you need to use the same Google account on your smartphone’s YouTube app as well as on the browser version. You also need to update the YouTube app to the latest version for this feature to appear.

So far, we don’t know if this feature will work in reverse or not. That is to say whether the user will be able to resume viewing the clips he has watched on the browser via smartphones or not.
