Saved by the BellThe Season 1 finale serves more questions than answers. For example, was Tori Scott just a feverish dream? Fiction of the heightened imagination of Zack Morris used to fill the void when Kelly Kapowski and Jessie Spano disappeared for long periods of last year?
The Peacock Revival refers to Leanna Creel’s leather-clad character, who appeared in a total of 10 episodes throughout the final season of the original series, never to be seen or heard again. The namedrop comes minutes into Episode 10, as Mac explains to her parents the PTA’s efforts to have Douglas High’s students (including Daisy, Aisha, and Devante) removed from Bayside:
Zack: These parents suck. You know, the Douglas kids deserve to go to a big school like Bayside. Plus, new kids keep things fresh. Do you remember Tori?
Kelly: Who?
Poor Zack wonders if he imagined Tori, as he did for the rock argument Zack Attack hosted by Casey Kasem. The episode also references Kelly’s ex-boyfriend Jeff planting a highly unlikely fatherhood twist, and just runs out. some of the ways Zack Morris was trashy in high school. Among the examples cited by Kelly: this time he sold toxic face cream; this time he handed out a swimwear calendar of Kelly, Jessie and Lisa without their permission; and this time he almost had Screech dissected by the US government.
In the end, all it takes is Kelly in a red cocktail dress to convince Governor Morris to step up and protect Mac’s new friends. After initially using their student outing as a photoshoot, Zack returns to confront the press and announce a new executive order, putting a three-year freeze on all school openings and closings. In doing so, he also jeopardizes his candidacy for re-election, meaning he may have to become a “seasoned lawyer” again.
The finale also sees Slater reckoning with his chauvinistic past. After seeing the work that goes as part of the student’s outing, he apologizes to mom – uh, Dr. Mama – uh, Jessie, for the way he treated her in high school when she showed a similar initiative. This apology gives Jessie the motivation she needs to stand up to René. When her lower half shows up at her desk and hands her a caffeinated drink in total disregard of her 30 years of sobriety, she finally says to her “narcissist, fake-awake, dreamcatcher, tattooed, homemade idiot- jerking “of a husband to hike. When René responds by saying, “I don’t even know who you are anymore,” Jessie speaks clearly: “I am Jessie F – King Spano!” Now get out of my office.
When you talk to TVLine before SBTBJessie’s return, gatekeeper Elizabeth Berkley Lauren hinted at Jessie’s final big moment. “It’s fun to play someone who seems to have it all together [attempt] to keep together, like Jessie did in the episode “I’m So Horny”, ”she said. “But now, around 2020, she is back to her fight. It’s not that Jessie lost it, but she reconnects to that part of herself… She gets her fire back.
Ultimately, everyone comes together at the Max to celebrate the Douglas children staying at Bayside. Daisy tells Mac that she can’t wait to become “a normal kid in Bayside for a while,” without having to face any other “insurmountable obstacles”, and ultimately hurts herself (and the world). Within seconds, Mac receives an alert on her phone that suggests the coronavirus pandemic is about to wreak havoc on their entire lives. And here we thought the May 14 earthquake was the biggest thing these Californians had to worry about!
