Days after catching negative reactions for the kidney transplant jokes Selena Gomez made in 2017, an episode of Peacock’s “Saved by the Bell” reboot was edited to remove them.
Snippets of the episode were shared on social media by fans who were largely dismayed that the show was making fun of his kidney transplant. Users quickly got the “Respect Selena Gomez” trending on Twitter over the weekend.
Now, according to People, the scenes in question have been removed from the episode on the Peacock streaming service.
The sixth episode of the first season sees a pair of Bayside High college students debate the donation of a kidney to Gomez, 28. of not having their phones to prove their claims.

Both suggestions are false rumors. Gomez received a kidney from her friend Francia Raisa, 32, who is an actress. The famous girlfriends underwent a kidney transplant in 2017 to save Gomez from life-threatening complications with lupus – an inflammatory disease that causes the immune system to attack its own tissues, according to the Mayo Clinic.
“Saved by the Bell” continued his joke at Gomez’s expense later in the episode with graffiti on the school wall that read, “Does Selena Gomez even have kidneys?”

Representatives for NBCUniversal did not immediately respond to Fox News’ request for comment.
However, the company issued a statement of apology to Variety before the episode was edited and pledged to donate to the Gomez charity.
“We apologize. We never intended to shed light on Selena’s health,” the statement read. “We have been in contact with her team and will be donating to her charity, the Selena. Gomez Fund for Lupus Research at USC.

Gomez has not commented publicly on the episode. Raisa posted a tweet thanking the network for their apologies, but still lamented the damage done by the episode’s harmful jokes.

“We appreciate the apologies, but let’s not forget the donors who felt offended and dismissed by the spray paint on the wall.” she tweeted on Saturday.
