You might remember that in September we hosted our very first indie Spotlight on Nintendo Life, announcing new games coming to Switch. Among this range was cathedral, a promising retro-styled 2D Metroidvania from Decemberborn Interactive, reminiscent of Shovel knight. Launched on PC in 2019, it is now coming to Switch next week on February 18.
In Cathedral, we’ll play a heroic knight with amnesia, waking us up to a different world with no memory of how they ended up here. As you explore a nonlinear fortress, you have been tasked with finding five legendary elemental orbs, placed under the protection of five guardians by a powerful demigod.
Speaking about Switch’s impending release, Eric Lavesson of Decemberborn Interactive confirmed:

With more than 600 pieces to explore on its immense interconnected world map, cathedral presents an 8-bit audiovisual feast that was created with contemporary metroidvania game design principles. From the cathedral The expansive map is completely handcrafted in meticulous pixel art detail, filled to the brim with all kinds of locations, secrets, puzzles, items, and special challenges.
Using the handy map feature is a must for gamers who want to uncover all the mysteries of this game. Get ready for a thrilling and noble adventure that will challenge and entertain for hours!
