Republican lawmakers rejected Cohen's credibility, pointing out that he had already admitted to having lied to Congress on the planned construction of a Trump tower in Moscow.

A sitting president can not be charged under the current guidelines of the Department of Justice. But Schiff argued that the Ministry's guidelines were flawed because of the limitation period.

"The Department of Justice's policy against the indictment is bad policy, especially (…) when there is a risk that the statute of limitations will allow a president to Escape justice, "he said.

The GM did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.
