Schools and homes evacuated after the derailment in the Saint-Louis region

DUPO, Ill. (AP) – One can see thick black smoke over several kilometers and evacuations were ordered after a derailment of a train in a suburb of St. Louis, Illinois.

The St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency reported that the train derailed at approximately 12:30 pm Tuesday in the city of Dupo, about 14 km south of St. Louis. He posted a video of big plumes of black smoke coming from a fire. You could see smoke in downtown St. Louis.

According to Dupo police, students from a primary school, a college and a high school were evacuated to a further high school. Police said that a few hundred residents of a mobile home park and a subdivision located near the tracks had also been evacuated.

KMOV-TV posted a video showing more than 10 derailed train cars and flames springing from the wreckage.

Emergency officials said they were not aware of what the train was carrying.
