Schumer: Senate seems to have introduced a measure to block Trump's national emergency

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) Said Thursday that Democratic senators would present a resolution to block President Donald Trump's national emergency declaration.

The Democratic Senators 'disapproval resolution comes as Democrats in the House plan to introduce a similar resolution disapproving of Trump' s emergency declaration on Friday.

"This issue transcends partisan politics, and I urge all Senators – Democrats and Republicans – to support this resolution in order to end the President's urgent declaration during a Senate vote" Schumer said in a statement, referring to the House resolution "A bill identical to the House resolution will soon be introduced in the Senate."

The House resolution should pass easily under the control of the Democrats. But we do not know if the resolution will be adopted by the Senate. Several Republican senators have expressed concern over Trump 's emergency declaration to build a border wall.

Senator Susan Collins of Maine became Wednesday the first Republican senator to say that she would support a resolution disapproving of the emergency declaration.

The Senate version of the resolution could put additional pressure on Republican senators to decide to break with the president as part of his national emergency declaration.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) Supported the Chair's decision.

It would take four Republican senators to join the Democrats and approve the measure, but Trump would probably veto it.
