Melinda Mostini's seven-year-old son Leo was born without a left hand and his arm was partially lost.
The young man was delivered to the hospital of Lorient, in the Morbihannaise, in the west of France in October 2011.
Ms Mostini, who is also Eva's mother, aged 10, discovered that Leo was suffering from the defect during an ultrasound performed in June.
After asking why, doctors would have told him, "It happens. These are accidents. We have no explanations.
And seven years later, doctors still have no idea of the cause of Leo's congenital malformation.

Ms Mostini told the Telegram: "I would like to be able to give Leo a real answer, just to explain why he's only got a hand."
But the youngster refuses to let his condition hold him back and simply tells friends that his hand did not develop in his mother's womb.
"Leo knows how to tie his laces since kindergarten. He spent hours on the couch training! Ms. Mostini added.
The young man, whom his mother calls a "little fighter", has been riding since the age of four and is passionate about cycling, swimmer and rugby.
Despite his trust, cruel aliens sometimes make unpleasant comments.
"Children have the right to be curious, but they are sometimes difficult," Ms. Mostini said.
Leo refuses to let himself be defeated and begins riding on horseback at the age of four. But the passionate cyclist, swimmer and rugby player still supports the cruel comments
Leo had his first consultation to have a prosthesis installed after he had not taken the one that was given to him when he was a child.
As part of the initial investigation into the problem, doctors questioned Ms. Mostini about her eating habits during pregnancy and about the medications she was taking.
However, no common thread was found between her and the other affected families.
"The question is whether it could be environmental," she told FranceInfo.
In reference to "fertilizers, pesticides," Ms. Mostini wonders if it has happened "something that has happened right now on the town".
