The special teams were the name of the match between the Los Angeles Chargers and the Detroit Lions. In addition to the Lions special team penalties, Matt Prater missed an extra point and a 40-yard field goal that would tie the game.

Ty Long tried to return to Prater, missing a 39-yard pitch in the third quarter, which would have given Los Angeles a touchdown lead. The Chargers also had two touchdowns in the third quarter by a penalty, which led to an Austin Ekeler penalty at the one yard line. Jahlani Tavai forced the restart, a week after the rookie's bag in his first career game.

Preview of the game

The Los Angeles Chargers will not have an easy walk in the park to stay perfect in season, not with the quality with which the Detroit Lions played in their first week draw against the Cardinals of the 39; Arizona. The Lions should have left Arizona with a win, but dropped an 18-point Cardinals lead in the fourth quarter to save a tie in a game that could have been a loss.

Then come the Chargers, who have just won an exciting victory in overtime against the Colts of Indianapolis. The Chargers had 154 yards and three touchdowns at Austin Ekeler, averaging 6.0 yards per game without Melvin Gordon. Ekeler had 12 runs for 58 yards and one touchdown, finishing with six catches for 96 yards and two touchdowns, while the Chargers had a total of 435 yards on the offensive.

The Lions have a tight close tie in T.J. Hockenson (six catches, 134 yards, touchdown) and Danny Amendola to compliment Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones. Matthew Stafford also totaled 385 yards and three touchdowns. Although the Lions game is surprising, this is a team that runs for the first time and hopes that Kerryon Johnson (16 runs, 49 yards in the first week) will face a Chargers defense 203 yards at the Colts last week.
