President Trump’s favorite coronavirus adviser Scott Atlas apologized on Twitter for appearing on Russia’s state-controlled RT network on Saturday, where he insisted the United States was turning the corner of the pandemic and that the lockdowns were “killing people.”
Why is this important: RT, formerly known as Russia Today, is a Russian state media registered under the Foreign Agent Registration Act. This means that all of its content qualifies as propaganda attempting to influence the public opinion, politics and laws of the United States.
- Atlas appeared on RT just hours after the Washington Post published an interview with Anthony Fauci, who criticized Atlas for his controversial views on the pandemic.

The big picture: Atlas, a radiologist, has been criticized for allegedly promoting ‘herd immunity’ as a COVID-19 strategy and for questioning the effectiveness of masks, which studies have found may help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
