Screening of Ohio State football’s 2022 cornerback rookies following Domani Jackson’s decision on Saturday: Buckeyes Recruiting

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Another of Ohio State’s top soccer goals in the 2022 recruiting class is set to leave the board on Saturday.

Domani Jackson of Mater Dei High School in Calif. – the No.3 player and No.1 cornerback – will choose between the Buckeyes, Arizona State, Clemson, Michigan, Oklahoma and USC. However, the momentum does not appear to favor OSU.

There’s a good chance Ohio State will be lost to Jackson. If that happens, he’ll join Amani Winfield as Class 2022 players who at one point appeared to be OSU lockdowns before going elsewhere. Winfield was once considered the second wide wide receiver in the class alongside Caleb Burton before choosing to stay at home and play for Steve Sarkisian in Texas. Jackson seems to be going down the same path: staying close to home by choosing Clay Helton at USC.

If things turn in the Buckeyes’ favor in the next 24 hours, Jackson would be the second five-star cornerback to join a class that already includes Florida-native Jaheim Singletary. The last time OSU landed two five-star turns was in 2017. The class also introduced the position’s No. 1 player to Jeff Okudah, while the other was from Florida to Shaun Wade.

Singletary joined the class earlier this month as the second corner of the class alongside Jyaire Brown. The four-star Ohio native who spent most of his life in New Orleans before returning to West Chester last summer was the first engagement in a squad that now sits atop the recruiting rankings .

There are 10 cornerbacks in the 2022 recruiting class with offers from Ohio State, and six will still be undecided after Saturday. Here’s a look at them and the chances of each joining Brown and Singletary in the class:

Denver Harris, North Shore High School (Texas)

Adding Harris would be a continuation of the Buckeyes’ success in Texas in recent years. The 2022 class already includes quarterback Quinn Ewers and wide receiver Caleb Burton. Landing Harris would give them three of the state’s top four players.

The Longhorns hold a unique crystal ball for the No.6 player and the No.3 cornerback, although it has been around since August and hasn’t attracted much traction since. He did not include the state of Ohio in one of the top eight titles last February. But if Singletary’s engagement has taught us anything, it’s that the return of Kerry Coombs means OSU can once again convince a five-star cornerback that Columbus is the right home for them in a short period of time. .

Will Johnson, Gross Pointe South High School, Michigan

Johnson and his father, Deon, came to “visit” Columbus the same weekend Ohio State was supposed to play in Michigan before the game was called off. The older Johnson played the Wolverines cornerback, which has long made him the favorite. This is no longer the case after a trip to USC.

His recruitment is closely linked to that of Jackson as the two have repeatedly expressed the desire to play in the same high school in college. The crystal balls in Michigan’s favor have diminished for Johnson. Depending on where Jackson picks up on Saturday, it won’t be a surprise if crystal balls start to favor them to land player No.8 and cornerback No.4.

Jadyn Lukus, Mauldin High School (SC)

The # 31 and a half corner player # 6 is the final five-star player in the 2022 recruiting class in this position. He’s had four Crystal Balls since favoring Clemson since June, even though he hasn’t pulled the trigger.

Lukus is probably the least likely to be a Buckeye at this point. Although he was late in choosing to enlist – a one-year time-out probably plays a big part in that – he doesn’t live far from the Tigers campus. Dabo Swinney has built a successful program without bringing in a five star boat, but when you’re literally in your backyard, it makes sense to lock it up ASAP.

Austin Jordan, Ryan High School, Texas

The second Texas player on this list, Jordan admitted he was “blown away” when he got an OSU offer in October 2019. His relationship started with Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley but continued. to grow with Coombs.

“I heard he was a great coach,” Jordan told cleveland.com in June. “I would love to be coached by him, honestly.”

He’s ranked No.167 and a No.19 cornerback. He’s yet to narrow his roster, but the feeling is that Oklahoma and Texas are joining the Buckeyes as favorites.

Ephesians Prysock, Bishop Alemany High School (California)

Prysock’s first impression on Coombs when he secured an OSU offer last spring was roughly in line with what to expect from the lively defensive coordinator.

“He was very excited,” Prysock told cleveland.com in May. “He said basically all of the guys he’s coached have been in the NFL. Whether they were injured or not. “

The No.196 player and No.22 cornerback is taller than the average player at the position, which is why some believe he could end up as a college security, although he is adamant about the fact that he’s supposed to be playing outside the corner at 6 feet. 3 and 170 pounds. It wouldn’t be a shock to see this happen as Ohio State freshman Ryan Watts is also listed at 6-foot-3 and throws like a corner kick.

“A lot of people think I’m a security, but I’m really a cornerback,” Prysock said. “I think a lot of people think this because I’m tall and tall.”

Toriano Pride, Lycée Lutheran North (Mo.)

The state of Ohio has found success in Missouri in recent years, and Pride would be the next addition to that. Ezekiel Elliott was the first to come in 2013, but since Kamryn Babb and Cameron Brown joined the 2018 class, the Buckeyes have added at least one in every class since. This includes Jakailin Johnson among the top 100 rookies in 2021.

Pride is the nation’s No.240 and No.27 cornerback and told cleveland.com he hears about Ohio State more than any other school, even if it wasn’t still football. He hopes to visit each other soon, especially if the recruitment deadlines are finally lifted on April 15.

“Yeah, I really watch them,” Pride told cleveland.com in December. “I hear about the state of Ohio more than anyone. … Ohio State does more harm. … If I don’t hear them, I’ll get a funny picture of (Recruitment Coordinator Mark) Pantoni where he’s doing jokes and stuff.
